The Challenge
The defining feature of a farmhouse is the wraparound porch. For this project in Central New Jersey, the owners wanted a modern house that felt like a traditional farmhouse. We had to get the proportions just right, making sure the porch depth and column spacing matched the scale of the rest of the building. Tying a large porch into the main roofline without it looking like an afterthought was the main hurdle.
The Craftsmanship
We built the porch using weather-resistant materials and solid wood columns. Our team focused on the framing to make sure the long spans of the porch were level and properly supported. We paid close attention to the trim and where the porch roof meets the house, ensuring every joint was tight and the flashing was installed correctly to prevent leaks. The columns and railings were spaced evenly to give the house its traditional look. From the foundation to the final piece of trim, we built every part of the structure to be solid and low-maintenance.
The Result
The finished farmhouse has a classic look with a functional outdoor area. The wraparound porch gives the homeowners plenty of space to sit outside and fits the style of the house perfectly. By sticking to traditional proportions and using modern building standards, we created a home that feels substantial and well-built. This project provides a comfortable, durable living space that is ready for any weather.
