The Challenge
This backyard in Central New Jersey had a very steep hill, which made a normal patio impossible. We had to figure out how to give the family some outdoor space without trying to level the whole yard. The plan was to build a big, raised deck off the second story to get them a flat area with a great view and some privacy.
The Craftsmanship
When you’re building a deck this high, the frame has to be incredibly strong. We used oversized concrete footers and heavy-duty beams to support everything. We also built a wide set of stairs to connect the deck down to the yard. We made sure every joist was reinforced and the railings were perfectly straight and solid so the whole thing is safe and looks good with the house.
The Result
The new deck completely changed how the family uses their backyard. By building up, we gave them a private spot with a view they couldn’t get from the ground. The area under the deck is still open for storage or more landscaping later. It shows how you can still get a great deck even on a tough, sloped lot.
